Scholarships

The Henry County Community Foundation has the privilege of facilitating several area scholarships.  These scholarship funds are a part of the Henry County Community Foundation and have been established by local families in honor and memory of loved ones. A portion of the interest monies earned on these funds that is returned to the community in the form of scholarship opportunities.

If you have an interest in applying for any of the scholarships listed below, please contact your local high school guidance department.  (Some scholarships are specific to the identified high school.) The Henry County Community Foundation only facilitates the financial aspect of these scholarships.  It is the area school guidance counselors who have the scholarship applications, specific criteria details,  and coordinate the selection committees.

Dr. Thomas F. Betts Memorial Scholarship:  (Patrick Henry High School) – One non-renewable annual college scholarship for graduates of Patrick Henry High School meeting the following criteria:  a) cumulative GPA in the upper one-third of the senior class; and b) active community involvement.  Preference will be given to applicants who plan to pursue a degree in the healthcare field.

Matthew S. Collier Memorial Scholarship:  (Patrick Henry High School) – One non-renewable annual college scholarship for graduates of Patrick Henry High School meeting the following criteria:  a) academic performance; b)acceptance to an accredited four-year degree program; c) community involvement; d) extra-curricular involvement.

Alex J. Kuser  Memorial Soccer Scholarship: (Napoleon High School) – An annual, one-time post-secondary educational scholarship to graduating male seniors of Napoleon High School meeting the following criteria: a) Intent to pursue education beyond high school at an accredited post-secondary institution; b) demonstrated passion for the sport of soccer including participation in the sport outside of the high school team and high school season; c) exhibition of commitment, hard work, dedication, leadership, positive outlook and team player attitude as well as enjoyment of the sport of soccer.

Alex J. Kuser  Memorial Tennis Scholarship: (Napoleon High School) – An annual, one-time post-secondary educational scholarship to graduating male seniors of Napoleon High School meeting the following criteria: a) Intent to pursue education beyond high school at an accredited post-secondary institution; b) demonstrated passion for the sport of tennis including participation in the sport outside of the high school team and high school season; c) exhibition of commitment, hard work, dedication, leadership, positive outlook and team player attitude as well as enjoyment of the sport of tennis.

Bernicke Family Memorial Scholarhip: (Napoleon High School) – see the Napoleon High School Guidance Department for specific details and criteria.

Grace N. Cox and Betty Lou Moose Scholarship:  (various area high schools) – see your respective school guidance department for eligibility and application details.

Kevin R. Schwiebert Memorial Scholarship:  (various area high schools) –  one post-secondary education scholarship to any Henry County high school graduate (need not be a current senior).  Emphasis will be placed on applicant serving their community above and beyond school requirements. Preference will be given toward the child of a current or former firefighter.  See your respective school guidance department for application details.
